The Road Home

Grace's travel plans had been derailed by an unforeseen death in the family. She was officially back in Del Sol Valley to lend her support and presence to her cousins. It had been an amazing adventure, and she held all the memories and travel guides she had written along the way dear. Selvadora would perhaps be her next adventure, but for now, her family needed her.

Zach was now a little too old to continue to be homeschooled. The boy would be attending Copperdale High starting this season and had already shown sparks of a strong-headed teenager. She didn't know how to handle his attitude at times; however, part of her smiled through it as he reminded her so much of herself at that age. He was adventurous and eager to learn. The choice to settle down now was partly because of him. She wanted Zach to have the full high school experience, as he should.

Not surprisingly, a few memories came back into perspective with her return. One of which had a name: Jessie. The man had conveniently come rushing to catch up on time lost with his 'son'—supposedly. Grace quickly understood the motives beneath it all. He had missed them—missed 'her'. The time for reconciliation and for doing the right thing was long gone. Their relationship may well remain volatile forever—not that she cared.

The little firecracker soon sank into a monotonous 9-to-5. She cherished the memories of her travels: the warm sand of Sulani, the green pastures of Henford O Bagley, the soothing creek of Chestnut Ridge, and, most of all, she had kept Malakai close to her heart and mind. The thought of him felt like home. He was her happy place, and luckily, he was only one text message away.

She always looked forward to hearing his voice at the end of the day. Although miles apart, a genuine friendship blossomed between the two of them—and perhaps something else she refused to name, just yet.

She had invited him to town, jokingly at first, but Malakai took her up on the offer.
It was decided! They would be meeting next month at San Myshuno's festival.
