A Promise in Disguise

Malakai was officially in town for a few days, and Grace gladly volunteered to be his guide—returning the warm hospitality he had shown her back in Henford-o-Bagley, where their friendship first begun. That was all there was to it, or so she told herself—they were simply old friends catching up with time.

As a countryside boy, born and raised, he was a little bit out of his element in Del Sol Valley's glamorous allure, but Grace and Zach made him feel right at home. They spent a day reliving old jokes and heartfelt memories. Malakai even met Zach’s girlfriend, Olivia, in spite of Grace's fierce protectiveness.

Children grew fast; it felt like only yesterday Zach had been playing with rabbits in the backyard.

The old friends eventually found a moment to themselves.

They wandered through San Myshuno and lingered at the city's romance festival as if fate itself had guided their path. Echoes of the past—merely buried, never truly forgotten—came knocking back. They remembered what they had once been to each other: a safe place. A home. I that realization, everything naturally clicked together in a long, overdue embrace.

Grace had missed him more than he could ever imagine, and the feeling was mutual. They hadn’t been ready for the next chapter back then, but time had changed them for the best. Grace was finally ready to listen to her heart—to give love another chance.

Malakai, on the other hand, never lost sight of what he wanted. His visit wasn't casual; it was his last chance to win her heart once and for all. From the moment he stepped off that plane, he knew what he had come to do.

The romance festival was only the beginning of something beautiful—something that felt inevitable.

And on their last evening together, Malakai got down on one knee.
