Redemption

Everything seemed to have fallen into place. The years of drifting away between cities, of searching oneself among the many, had all come to a full stop. Not the definitive kind with little room for growth, on the contrary. The end of this particular chapter was the beginning of a love story that had long been overdue. She couldn't think of anyone else she would want to spend the rest of her life with more than him.

It was official, even when it felt surreal:

Malakai and Grace were getting married!

The months following the proposal brought about numerous changes, challenges, and surprises. The couple learned to balance their relationship and eventually moved in together in San Sequoia.

They made up for all the time they had spent apart, questioning something that had always felt natural.

It came as no surprise that they were soon expecting a bundle of joy named Carla.

Grace always assumed she was a bit too old for another child, especially after Zach had already grown into his own person. A part of her knew that Malakai wanted a chance at parenthood as much as she wanted a do-over, a chance to get things right this time around, not that anything was wrong with her son.

Zach had always been her anchor, the underlying reason behind her perseverance and fearlessness. However, the circumstances of his birth were nothing but the result of her own selfishness. Her son would never know the identity of his real father because of her stubbornness and thirst for revenge, a secret she was prepared to take to her grave. Deep down, she always blamed herself for not being able to give Zach the perfect family dynamics under the circumstances.

Carla was her chance to redeem herself.
